About Me

My name is Marie-Louise Katsikare (Milou) and I am a BACP registered therapist based in Cobham, Surrey.

I have an extensive professional background in private practice and in the NHS which has given me experience and insight into personal, family and professional difficulties.

As a person-centred therapist, I facilitate the sessions by listening without judgement and acknowledging your experiences and emotions you are feeling. I will guide the therapeutic process without interrupting or interfering with your process of self-discovery. I also follow a psychodynamic approach to explore any childhood experiences that might affect your current thinking and behaviour. By looking at past experiences we will be able to make connections that will enable you to make informed choices about what behaviours you would like to change.

As a BACP registered therapist I am bound by the ethics of good practice from the BACP and as such require ongoing supervision and continual professional development.

What is
EFT (Tapping)?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a form of alternative therapy that is gaining popularity around the world. Also known as "tapping", EFT involves using your fingers to gently tap on certain parts of your body while focusing on a specific issue or emotion.

The basic principle of EFT is that negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system. By tapping on specific meridian points while focusing on the negative emotion, it is believed that the energy system can be rebalanced, leading to a reduction in the intensity of the negative emotion.

While EFT is still considered a relatively new form of therapy, there is a growing body of evidence to suggest that it can be effective in treating a range of emotional and psychological issues, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more.

Why is it called Gaia therapy?

In Greek mythology, Gaia (/ˈɡeɪə, ˈɡaɪə/;[2] Ancient GreekΓαῖαromanized: Gaîa, a poetic form of Γῆ (Gê), meaning 'land' or 'earth'),[3] also spelled Gaea /ˈdʒiːə/,[2] is the personification of the Earth.[4] Gaia is the ancestral mother—sometimes parthenogenic—of all life.

Much like Gaia (Earth) health is also spherical;

The WHO constitution states: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

So many symptoms of anxiety are physical and these shouldn't be ignored during therapy which is why I can also incooporate EFT into our sessions if this is something you would like to explore.

EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Techniques and was founded by Gary Craig in 1995. Its earlier forms involved stimulating the acupuncture meridians while tapping on them with the fingertips, that’s why it is often called "Tapping."

This way I incorporate bodywork into our session.
